FAQ Level 3 Award in First Responders on Scene: Emergency First Responder (RQF)
We are delighted to be able to offer the Level 3 Award in First Responders on Scene: Emergency First Responder (RQF) which is designed for those involved in providing initial emergency care for example Community Responders, Fire and Police Officers, personnel involved in the security industry, senior cabin crew and industrial first aiders.
This qualification is Category C on the FPHC PHEM Skills Framework:During this training some of the things you will learn are different immobilisation techniques used in treating different injuries, the correct use of spinal boards and scoop stretchers to immobilise and transport a patient, advanced airway management, emergency oxygen use and how to work with a team to treat a patient.
The qualification is aimed at individuals who work or intend to provide immediate emergency care. It forms part of the FutureQuals first responder on scene qualification suite.

Where it is possible we offer virtual, online and distance courses. This course does require some face to face training and we offer it as a blended course to help reduce the time you need to spend in the classroom helping to reduce time away from home or work.

Qualification information and required units
The first unit is completed online through the ProTrainings video based training, this training was designed by frontline medical professionals with many years of experience delivering FPOS courses and qualifications.
Units three to four are completed as blended training, the theory online and the practical in the classroom, Unit 5 is the final assessment and is done on the last day of the four day classroom course.
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however first aid knowlege is recommended.

Why do we deliver this as a blended qualification?
The new qualification has been extended to provide more knowledge and understanding of the subjects covered. As a result it is no longer possible to complete the course over five days in the classroom. ITG uses the blended training option which is approved by Edexcel to deliver the theory modules online and the practical elements and assessment in the classroom over 4 days.
All delegates will need to complete the online test from Pearson during the classroom course.
Course Details
To achieve the FAQ Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene learners must achieve a minimum of 10 components.
- Human anatomy and physiology for immediate emergency care
- Assessment of casualties in immediate emergency care
- Basic airway management in emergency care
- Basic life support and external defibrillator
- Management of medical conditions
- Support the emergency care of wounds, bleeding and burns
- Management of injuries
- Management of trauma
- Recognition and management of anaphylaxis
- Administration of oxygen therapy
Course content includes:-
- Learn how to use spinal boards and scoop stretchers to immobilise and transport a patient
- Learn different immobilisation techniques used in treating different injuries
- Learn how to test someone fort blood sugar levels
- Learn how to use and analyse Pulse Oximetry
- Learn how to how to take and understand blood pressure
- Learn how to use tools to immobile fractured limbs
- Learn how to size and fit cervical neck collars
- Learn the treatments of a wide variety of different injuries and illnesses
- Learn how to stop catastrophic bleeding with tourniquets and Haemostatic dressings
- Understand how to estimate the levels of blood loss
- Learn to identify different medical conditions
- Understand how the human body works to better understand treatments
- Learn advanced airway management and how to use airway devices
- Learn how to use bag valve masks in resuscitation
- Learn how to use Oxygen in an emergency
- Learn about some medications used in patient care
- Learn how to use AED units in cardiac arrests
- Learn how to manage advanced trauma injuries
- Understand how to triage patients to treat the more serious person first
- Understand and practice advanced patient priority treatments using DR(s)ABCDE
- Understand and practice completing Patient Information Records
- Use suction to clear a patient's airway
- Learn how to work with a team to treat a patient
- Have a higher medic level of training far above the First Aid at Work level 3 qualification
