Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

This Assessor Award will become the minimum requirement for Trainers who hold the PTLLS qualification and who would like to continue to deliver First Aid at work qualifications from October 2015.

100% theory based this can be completed online through our Virtual Learning Environment.

Learners choosing to complete the full Award in Assessing or CAVA will be able to put this Unit towards their course in the future and we offer generous discounts to individuals who complete this unit on their First Aid at Work related trainer courses and then continue to achieve the full Award.

Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement & CAVA

Who is this course for?


If you need to be qualified to assess Vocationally Related Achievement only, you will need to complete unit 1 and unit 3.

To gain the full TAQA/CAVA qualification which will qualify you to assess both Vocationally Related Achievement and Assess competence in the workplace you will need to complete Unit 1 Unit 2 and Unit 3.

The TAQA / CAVA qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in the classroom or training environment for example.

To gain the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing delegatesl need to complete all of the 3 units listed below, the first unit is completed online through our Moodle based Virtual Learning Environment and to complete the second unit delegates need to present evidence of assessing at least 2 learners competence in 2 components (4 assessments in total)

This is a practical-based qualification intended for those who assess competency in the workplace and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (i.e. workshop, classroom or other training environment)

Entry Requirements


To be able to meet the learning outcomes for this course it is important to note that delegates need to be working in an organisation that is already involved in the assessment of complex regulated qualifications. In all cases we will require the full course specification for the qualifications that will be assessed. Delegates will also need to provide proof of competency in the subjects they are going to assess.

To help we provide an online initial assessment form which will help to identify whether delegates have access to learners who are completing suitable qualifications.

To complete this course delegates also need to have a qualified assessor within your organisation who will act as an expert witness and oversee your workplace assessment.

If you only require a qualification to Assess Vocational Achievement then you can choose to complete modules 1 and 3, this would give you the Level

  • For this module delegates must have 2 learners who are completing a regulated work-place based qualification.
Unit 3 -600/3872/X Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • Credit Value 9
  • Guided Learning Hours 30 (this unit only)
  • Minimum Age 19
  • Assessment Method - Portfolio of Evidence
  • Candidates completing this module must have 2 suitable learners undertaking a vocationally related course.
